Auctioneer’s Report (Stephen Dennis):

Auctioneer’s Report (Stephen Dennis): A new breed record price of £12,000 was recorded at Bentham Auction Mart at the 86th Annual Show & Sale of Registered Dalesbred Rams when a shearling ram, Brackenbottom 7/1680 from Michael and Anne Carr of Brackenbottom Farm, Horton in Ribblesdale sold to Mr John Kelsall of Cold Cotes and Mr Stephen Wright of Roeburndale. The shearling ram was sired by the Ellerbeck Ram 207/1463 purchased in 2015 for £4000 out of a ewe sired by the Summerlands Ram 66/912. The record breaking ram had not been out in the pre-sale show classes where the judges John Carr, Brackenbottom, Chris Fawcett and referee Frank Brennand chose a Field Head Ram from Messrs JM & CJ Dawson for the Overall Champion later selling for £2200 to Messrs Harrison of Blubberhouses, the same breeders also being awarded 4th prize in the Large Breeders and returning £4000 selling to JL Moran & JR Carr, Wigglesworth. Other leading prices included a shearling ram from Gary and Neil Capstick of Fell End when Messrs Tiplady of  North Walden, Leyburn paid £6000 for a Field Head sired ram out of a Yarlsber sired ewe. Other shearling rams sold to £4000 from Messrs C Harrison & Son, Blubberhouses; £3500 from JT & J Kelsall, Summerlands; £3000 from RA Swainson, Studfold; £2600 from Heather Challis, Middlesmoor; £2100 from MJ & A Carr, Brackenbottom.
