Auctioneer’s Report: Greg MacDougall : A similar show of 1076 cast ewes and rams sold to the usual ringside of buyers. As numbers start to tighten around the country and all classes were once again dearer. A highlight of the evening’s sale was the annual show for cast sheep with Andrew Atkinson in charge of proceedings. A good show forward with a marvellous class of Texels in particular out before Andrew. The Champion Pen awarded to Procters Farm Ltd later went on to make £180 purchased by Ali Shan of Yorkshire Halal Ltd. Trade in general saw the heaviest Suffolk and Texel x ewes sell regularly between £95-£115 with heavier sorts £80-£90+. Smaller sorts and leaner end selling between £60-£75. Best bred and pure ewes selling at extreme rates with 128ewes of the total entry selling at £110 or more. Procters Farm led the way with pens to £178.50, £177.50 x 2, £174.50, £168.50 with F & HJ Booth at £167.50 and J & M Blakey showing Beltex to £166.50. Heavy Mule ewes £80-£85 topping at £89.50 with Mashams to £94.50. Next draw down middle £70s with plain around £65. Strongest of the Horned ewes this week into the £70s topping at £84.50 with A & H Watson selling Roughs to £80.50. Fleshy Swales and SBF in general £60+ with medium types £50+. Lean ewes £30-£40. A large entry of rams forward with the heaviest end £100-£116 and lean well worked types £60-£80.
