Auctioneer’s Report (Will Alexander): The Dugdale Summer Calf show was in the capable hands of Wigton farmer David Bell, a mixed entry was forward, a good show of Blue Bulls and heifers saw Henry Knowles take the top honours in both classes and later going on to take Champion with his Bull and Reserve with his Heifer. As always the strong calves were best to sell, with Will Robinson of Slaidburn leading the way with his Blue x Fleckvieh bull topping the day at £540, Henry Knowles also up at £500 with his Champion, heading home with the judge. Strong continental bulls all upwards of £440, the next bracket £400-£440, with the best native calves a similar price, topping at £485 for a weaned Hereford again from the Robinsons of Slaidburn. A middling show of medium calves, most £270-£320. Blue heifers to a top of £420 for the Reserve Champion, others from the same home to £400, matched by David, Val & Andrew Lawson who sold both of theirs at the same price. Next draw blues £340-£390, with the smalls either side of £300. Native heifers to £300 for the first place Angus from Chris Lund, Pump House, with others either side of £210. Holstein bulls trade sharper for the stronger end, with numerous £200+, topping at £275 from H&A Stephenson, calves £120-£140 looking a bit easier on the week, with the smalls a similar price, either side of £70.
