Auctioneer’s Report (Will Alexander): A slightly different format for the summer calf show, with prizes being awarded for top prices rather than a show. Thanks go to Dugdale Nutrition for their continued support and sponsorship of this popular event. Dave Martin scooped the top spot in the Blue Bulls at £410, whilst the Salthouse family were leading the way in the Blue heifer class at £375. Plenty of nice heifer calves forward today, best of the Continentals again to a top of £375 from Dave, Val & Andrew Lawson with their Limousin. Simmentals generally around the £270 mark, with the best to £325 from Kelsall & Wood. Other continental bulls to a top of £365 for a smart Bazadaise from John & Nigel Airey, Eldroth. A nice run of strong Angus bulls from Mike Packham, Docker saw his best, out of a Fleckvieh cow, hit a high of £360, with others at £310 & £300. A couple of smart heifers from Chris Lund, Pump House peaked at £330. Trade similar to previous weeks, younger calves in demand, month old Herefords around £260, and Angus heifers generally either side of £200. Black and whites forward in bigger numbers and a little harder to place than previous weeks, a stirk from John & Ed Fox at £185, whilst the stronger end calves £120-£150, mediums £70-£90, with the next draw £50-£60.
