Show all

Despite a wet and winter like morning, an enthusiastic ring of buyers ensured that all classes sold well above expectations. What can only be described as a wonderful show of hoggs saw the 1st prize Continentals from KG Stapleton realise £370 purchased by the Judge, Graham Howsam. Top price of the day came from Joe Gorst for a single Texel Hogg ‘Sophie’ with Beltex lamb at £400. 2nd prize pen coming from EJ Ward at £295 and D & R Cornthwaite traveling from Lockerbie realising £300 with their 3rd prize pen. Best end Continentals generally £300-£330 with Nick & Charlotte Brown realising £335 with their best. Next draw £200-£250 and look nicely sold. Mule hoggs in greater demand than expected with plenty of pens £230-£250 topping at £300 for 1st prize pen from first time winners Ian & Kevin Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Appleby. Commercial types £170-£190. The popularity of Mashams was once again evident with JW & LT Gorst topping the section at £260, others at £240 from the same home and £220 from JK Gorst & Son. Cheviot Mules to £245 for Stephen Hill’s 1st prize pen with the 2nd prize pen coming from Will Wildman at £240. Thanks must go to today’s Judges, Graham Howsam of Lincolnshire and locals Brian & Stephen Lawson of Westhouse and also all vendors for turning out a tremendous show of sheep.
