Auctioneer’s Report (Will Alexander): A cracking show of cows and heifers for the Cogent Winter Dairy Day. The pre-sale show was in the capable hands of Raymond Wharton, Blackford, Carlisle, who with speed and efficiency picked his champion and reserve. The champion from new vendor Patrick Morris-Eyton with a super Mr Mastermind sired 37day calved heifer. She was the day’s top price at £2400, heading home with the judge. George & David Whitwell , Austwick took the reserve rosette with their 3rd calved cow, 30days and 45litres she soon peaked at £2300 to Bert Metcalfe, Kirkby Lonsdale. Eleven of the 15 heifers sold over £2000, whilst the 3 of the 4 cows breezed past £2000. Heifers averaged £2063 and cows £2132. An in-calf Monty heifer from R Raby realised £1200 and a single buller from Brian Haygarth made £700.
