Auctioneer’s Report (Greg MacDougall): Another busy day in the store lamb department with a record entry of 7821 forward. Something to suit all requirements with plenty of long and short keep lambs on offer. Mule lambs definitely dearer on the fortnight by some £3-£5. Strongest and best bred types maintaining recent high rates with long keep lambs easier although still well ahead of last year and still best sold. Topping the day’s sale were strong Suffolks from Matthew Stephenson, Penrith realising £115. A pen of smart Beltex types from A Prickett, Farleton sold to £108 with BR Lawson, Buddle House selling his best to £107. Other notable prices were a pen of 40 from MJ O’Donnell, Otley at £101 and AJ Haggas to £100 for a pen of 40. A great consignment of 471 mainly CTLs from DR Rowland & N Woodward sold to £93.50 to average £83.63 with young Blossom selling her three lambs to £102– hope she spends it on Masham gimmer lambs!! Best lambs in general either side of £100 with the strongest types £85-£95. Medium term sheep around £78-£82 with long keep lambs for Spring £60-£72. Mule lambs to £84.50 from Mark Dodd of Dent with a strong lamb £78-£84. Smaller sorts £70-£74. Another increased entry of hill lambs saw Swales to £67, Roughs to £64 and a great show of Cheviots to £89 for a pen of 70 from Chris Brown. Overall average £77.09 (+£8.85 on the year).
