Auctioneer’s Report (Stephen Dennis): 1413 lambs forward selling to an overall average of 348p/kg up 18p on the week. Congratulations to B & AC Barnes of Hawkin Hall, Middleton taking first prize in the weekly show and winner of the May Spring Lamb Competition amassing the most points throughout the month with two firsts, two seconds and a third prize. Their prize lambs on the day making £198 weighing 41kg purchased by Bowland Foods. Other lambs topping the £180 mark included Ian Wainwright of Fife with 48kg at £186, Trevor Foster, Preston 43kg at £182.50 and first time vendors Messrs Moss of Nottingham with a trio of 55kg at £180.50. Strong competition for the top end lambs making either side of £4/kg. Suffolk x lambs averaging 334p reflecting a strong trade for the commercials with a keen demand also for the heavier lambs.
