Auctioneer’s Report (Greg MacDougall): Just short of 4000 lambs forward for the second sale with a packed ringside of both local and travelled buyers in attendance with a strong contingent from Northern England.  Despite the lack of rain and most definitely keep around the country an enthusiastic audience ensured all classes were well sold, although it is worth noting lambs were stronger and of better quality than the previous sale.  A few more hill bred and Mule lambs included in the sale with the overall average of £83.71 (£1.35 on the year) a good result on the day bearing in mind the current finished price.  A consignment of mainly strong lambs from RE Wilson, Hundayfield topped the sale at £132 with 5 Suffolk x HB gimmer lambs.  Beltex from the same home to £121.  A J Haggas producing his usual quality types topping at £116. WM & E Dugdale followed up from a fortnight ago’s trade topping this time at £114 again for Beltex.  Last vendor into the ring P Stephenson, Far Cappleside took home £113 for their top pen.  Best Beltex lambs in general as well as the strongest cross bred types £100-£110, with a notch below selling well into the £90s.  A nice medium term Texel or Suffolk lamb mostly out of the Mule ewe £82-£88 and a pound or two sharper than last time.  Nicer long keep lambs high £70s with a more commercial sort £70-£72 with only a few pens of common types or longer term projects in the high £50s.  A run of Cheviot mules from JW Hall, Darnbrook sold to £90.50 with the consignment averaging £84.23.  Mule lambs to £80 from JA Ellershaw, Bridgeside with trade in general £73-£77 and smaller pens £60-£68.  Horned lambs to £63 from Tebay vendor CD & J Steadman and Swales to £42 from JH & SM Mason.  Not many customers ringside yet for horned lambs.  Trade strong from start to finish and a good atmosphere around the auction,  entries invited for the next sale on Tuesday 9th August with a large show expected.  Keep praying for rain!!
