Auctioneer’s Report (Greg MacDougall):

Auctioneer’s Report: Greg MacDougall : Morgan Helliwell took charge of judging at the first of two Christmas shows for sheep this week being long wooled lambs. Overall Champion came from the horned class with 5 well presented Scotch Black Faced lambs from AA&HM Capstick, Howgill realising £90 with Mr Helliwell backing his decision and purchasing the lambs. Reserve champions were 5 Cheviot lambs from JJ&M Metcalfe making £88 and being knocked down to Mr Helliwell. Away from the show a larger entry of prime lambs were forward with a much better show off quality and meat on offer. Topping the nights sale was Procters Farm Ltd with heavy texels realising £131.50 with others to £120 with Wannops Farms Ltd equalling this with their best pen. A nice show of best bred types with plenty pens 210-270p topping at 275p a kilo or £110 from the Wannop family. A run of well presented lambs from M Wynne, Padfield topped at 252.6p with others to 247.5,247.3, 243.6. Nicer commercial lambs 190p-200p with cross bred types in general 180p+. Lambs weighing 45-50kg £82-£90 with heavy lambs weight depending £95—£120. More demand for lightweight lambs with more numbers now required (27kg-35kg) often 180-210p depending on quality with F Joel topping the section at £76.50 or 218.6p Handy weight mule/mashams 173-183p with the heavier end still £82-£89. Horned lambs making similar money with AA&HM Capstick selling a pen of 17 SBF to £82.50.
