Auctioneer’s Report (Stephen Dennis): The Early Breeding Sale once again delivered on both numbers and quality. Sheep suitable for early tupping good to sell, Suffolk Halfbred Shearlings from Messrs Hockenhull of Nantwich sold to £255 with similar types from Ross Bros of Fraserborough to £220. Suffolk x Mule shearlings also in high demand, the highlight of the sale being a level pen of 120 presented by Haigh Murray of Dumfries, a sight to behold and keenly bid to £205. Cheviot Mule x Texel Shearlings presented by Messrs Dixon of Cabourne sold to £210. Good sorts of Mule Shearlings from Fox Farms sold to £192. Most commercial types £165-£175. Mule ewes generally good to sell. Younger end £160-£170 with a handful of pens £180-£190 being the best of a superb run of 250 one crops from Michael Lawson of Cockermouth. Selected purebred ewes and shearlings good to sell throughout for all breeds. JH Towers of Tunstall topping the Suffolks with shearlings to £390. A pen of 5 Texel x from AL Thompson of Foulridge sold to £360. 20 shearlings from Tim Jackson, Raygill selling from £300-£340. Charollais Shearlings to £360 from Beverly Walker of Askham in Furness and Beltex to £340 again from Tim Jackson. A range of prices to suit all budgets throughout the sale but quality sorts in greatest demand and returning premium prices.
