Auctioneer's Report (Will Alexander): Demand for calves continues, with both local and travelled farmer and dealer buyers ringside. Phil Wood was back at the top of the tree, with a lovely run of continental calves travelling up from Lancaster. His best being a Simmental bull which after spirited bidding realised £470. Unfortunately no show stopping Blues forward, the best again from Kelsall & Wood and Dave Martin, Levens at £360, other smart but younger sorts £330-£355. Angus bulls to a top of £325 from WA &A Booth, Feizor, with some sweet sorts from Frank Morphet generally £230-£250. Blue heifers saw the best £300-315 topping at £320 from Chris Lund, Nether Kellet. Strongest heifers to £350 again from Chris Lund, others £200-£242, with the smalls £170-£190. Dairy bull trade continues to bounce, with Montbelliarde and Fleckvieh bulls from Johnny Beresford sell between £250-£265, Black and Whites a touch sharper on the week, strongest sorts anywhere from £110-£158 dependent on quality, the best weaned calves at 12weeks from Roger Bainbridge to £235, £222 & £215. Those still on milk £62-£98 with only the plainer end £40-£50, averaging £108.
