Auctioneer’s Report (Stephen Dennis): A record entry of over 4000 North of England Mule Shearlings included a number of runs of outstanding quality. The pre-sale show proved a difficult task for judges Ashley Moran of Hellifield and Tom Turnham of Northants who after some deliberation awarded the red rosette to James Robinson & Zak Ward for a superb pen which exuded both strength and quality. Winning the Margaret Joel Trophy, they later sold for £310 to the judge Tom Turnham. Ashley Moran was determined to buy Chris Hewitt of Tatham 2nd prize pen but was outbid by an undisclosed telephone bid at £400. Brian Lawson of Westhouse, having won for the last two years had to settle for the yellow rosette with Robinson & Ward taking 4th place and Philip & Denise Elliott, Mungrisedale taking a well deserved 5th prize. Quality sheep were well sought after throughout the sale generally top side of £200. Second draw pens varied depending on whether vendors had support of regular customers whilst the bottom end sheep in the £150-£155 range looked nicely sold all day. An overall sale average of £172.30 was up £22.30 on the year for an extra 1055 sold.
