Auctioneer’s Report (Stephen Dennis): The opening Ram sale at Bentham Auction set off on a high with 556 rams going under the hammer at the Annual Ram-Page, 83 more rams were sold than last year with the overall sale average showing an increase of £16.45 at £431.68. Local breeder John Kelsall of Summerlands, Cold Cotes took the limelight, his Texel shearling ram taking the Champion Texel rosette and later selling to the judges, Richard & Carol Benson of Ulverston for £2100. Messrs Kelsall’s pen of 10 Texel shearlings averaged £1010, the same breeder also catching the eye in the crossbred section topping at £1000 for a 2nd prize Texel x Beltex shearling with an average of £776 for his pen of five.
