Auctioneer’s Report (WIll Alexander):

The Genus Extravaganza attracted an entry of 29 Newly Calved Cows and Heifers, the pre-sale show was in the capable hands of Stephen Hunter, Penrith. A quality turn out in both the Pedigree and Commercial Heifer classes and after much deliberation, Dave Martin, Kendal, took the red rosette with his pedigree Heifer “Lordspain Bac Hurr Topaz”, whilst George and David Whitwell took the top sport in the commercial class with their heifer, 8days calved and yielding 28litres. She later received the Champion Rosette ahead of the first place pedigree heifer, which took reserve. In the sale ring, the judge backed his earlier placing, securing the Champion at £2080 and the reserve at £2000. Others in the top spots were Peter Swindlehurst with his 3rd place pedigree Heifer “Tranthwaite Uno Pip” at £2050 and Andrew Dawson with his 2nd place heifer “Tarnbrook Yvonne 7” at £1950. On the whole, a nice trade for the heifers on offer, with the better end of the Holstein Friesian types regularly £1700+. A nice collection of Friesian cattle sold to a top of £1750 for a second calved cow from WT Whitaker & Son, Nether Kellet, whilst Stephen Brennand’s Friesian heifer peaked at £1850. Thanks to our judge, Stephen Hunter and sponsors Genus, the next sale is a Wednesday 28th with an expected entry of 25-30.
