Auctioneer’s Report (Will Alexander): No let-up in the dairy trade this, week with a cracking show of both cows and heifers turned out before judge Tom Pollock, Ainstable, Carlisle, who was ably assisted by grandson Jonathon. It was Peter Swindlehurst’s 3rd calved cow which caught their eye taking the red rosette in the cow class, followed by Messers Fawcett, Hawes with a second calved Friesian cow taking second, realising £1800 & £1600 respectively. In the heifer class, David Knowles, Kendal claimed the first prize ticket with his 20day calved heifer, which later took the champion rosette too and sold to a sale topping price of £2320 heading home with the judge. After a traumatic morning, Mark Smith, Skipton claimed the third prize rosette with a lovely heifer, 4 weeks calved and giving 39l she later realised £2250, travelling home with a consignment to Cheshire. First time vendor Andrew Blacoe, Lytham showed a superb Friesian heifer which took the second prize rosette and sold for £2080. All vendors leaving satisfied with their returns, plenty of heifers in excess of £1800, with the next bracket £1500-£1600, with a few lesser sorts around the £1300 mark.
