Auctioneer’s Report (Stephen Dennis): Enthusiastic Swaledale breeders made for a good pre sale atmosphere with a busy show line up expertly judged by Colin Sowerby of Kirkby Stephen. Champion prize was awarded to Peter Handley of Gunnerfleet for a shearling ram with excellent breed qualities but perhaps lacking the size to attract sale ring interest. The judge’s choice for the 3rd place rosette was a shearling from Colin Price which had the strength to succeed in the sale ring topping the shearling section at £800 selling to Andrew Haggas of Otterburn. Whilst trade for shearlings was selective, a trio of tups from the Birbecks of High Stennerskeugh were well admired in both show and sale ring with the best pair each making £500. There was plenty of interest in the older tups with a 5 shear from Jop Ridding standing 3rd in the show which topped the sale at £1400 going home with Stephen Sutcliffe of Horton in Ribblesdale.
