Auctioneer’s Report (Stephen Dennis): The Annual Easter Lamb Show was greeted with plenty of enthusiasm from both vendors and buyers alike. Chris Wright of Boston, Lincs put his expert skills to task judging both classes and awarding the Champion Rosette to Brian & Thomas Barnes of Hawkin Hall, Middleton, their 43kg Beltex x lamb later selling to the judge for £200. Alec & Freddie Jenkinson, Stalmine (previous winners of the Easter Show) had to settle for a worthy 2nd place this year with a 40kg Texel x returning £188 purchased by Yorkshire Halal. First time vendors of Messrs Musgrave of Dalton, Carlisle also in the prizes selling heir show lambs to £193.50 and later topping the sale at £206 with a 44kg Texel x and £5/kg for a 41kg lamb at £205. Quality lambs in high demand especially for handier weights with Texels averaging 405p and other Continental x 380p/kg. Commercial Suffolk/ Dorset x generally 280-300p, an overall sale average of 335p SQQ 360p. Lambs required on a weekly basis going forward.
